卒業生の声 2017春

MEL School には卒業生が遊びに来てくれることがよくあります。

そんな中の一人に寄せてもらったメッセージを紹介します。

1. 自己紹介をお願いします。

　

一橋大学の社会学部で勉強しています。高校生のときにアメリカへ一年間留学をしました。ペンシルバニア州のランカスターというのどかな田舎です。この地域には電気を使わないで生活をするアーミッシュという人々も住んでいて、彼らが馬車で道路を通る姿は日常でした。自分のこれまでの関心や留学の経験を考えて大学では社会学を勉強したいと思って進路を選択しました。

Tell us about yourself.

I’ve been studying sociology at Hitotsubashi University. I spent one third of my high school life in the U.S. to study at the local high school when I was 16. I stayed in Lancaster in Pennsylvania, where people called Amish who live without electricity also reside. Considering my interests and the experience I had in the U.S., I decided to study sociology.

2. MEL School にはいつ、どの期間通っていましたか？　

中学一年生の春から留学に行く高校一年の夏までです。

When did you attend MEL School?

From when I entered junior high school until the first summer in high school.

3. MEL School での学習は留学中、そして現在に至るまでどのように活きていると思いますか？　

MELでは英語を学ぶと同時に、英語というツールを用いて自分の考えを伝える練習をしていたと思います。そのため自分がどう考えているか、どういう思いを持っているかに向き合うことができるようになりました。また、どうすれば自分の考えが相手に伝わるかも学びました。MELを卒業して現在も、自分がどのように考えているかを内省してみたり、英語でも日本語でも相手に一番分かりやすく理解されやすい伝え方を工夫してみたりするのはMELでその練習を繰り返してきたからだと思います。

What do you appreciate about things you learned at MEL School?

MEL taught me not only how to master English but also how to use English in order to express my thoughts and ideas. This helped me tackle what I was really thinking and learn how to get them across to others. Since I graduated from MEL School, I still keep reflecting myself on what I think and struggling to be understood.
